If you can talk to him about homework sometime and then see if he wants to maybe call you to study some of the work to help each other study for a test or something. It will be hard to ask but its to do with school and it breaks part of the shyness. If you can exchange phone numbers then its the first step, since both of you are shy. Or maybe see if he might want to stay after with you to study. If he does take that time to give a number or stay after, then he likes you just as much as you like him.
