Why are so many freedom-loving liberals so in support of policies that stymie others?

Liberals no longer favor liberty. With them, it's all about power--power to impose their left-wing ideology on everybody. They are total, insufferable elitists. And they are hypocrites as well--they like government policy that would take conservatives off the radio ("fairness doctrine), yet they are outraged that our government would want to listen in on the conversations of non-U. S. citizens who want to blow us up (the Patriot Act.)
